Tulsa, OK - Melissa Hawkes joins Tulsa-based digital marketing firm Creative State from News on 6, the CBS affiliate in Tulsa. She has also been a reporter at KPRC in Houston, Texas and KATC in Lafayette, Louisiana. She is a graduate of the Bob Schieffer School of Journalism at Texas Christian University. She grew up near Houston in Katy, Texas.
“As a child, my family told me I asked too many questions, but little did they know that would be the start of my career and passion for telling people’s stories. I’m excited to join Creative State where I’ll be able to tell a wide range of stories for businesses and organizations throughout the country,” stated Hawkes.
Melissa will lead Creative State’s newly formed B2B Video Department. She will be responsible for creating a wide variety of video content for Creative State clients. She will focus on Facebook Live and other live video platforms as well as short-form B2B video that is optimized for social sharing.
“Our goal is to make it quick and affordable for businesses to create high quality videos they can share on their websites and on social media. In addition to live events, this will include company news, employee spotlights, job postings, customer education videos, new product announcements, and executive interviews. Almost anything a business is currently posting as text can be more effective and engaging as a video. We’re excited that our new B2B Video Department will be able to deliver high quality video very quickly for less than a third of the cost of traditional video production methods. This will help businesses improve the quality - and quantity - of videos they produce,” stated Brent Lollis, founder of Creative State.
While at KATC in Louisiana Melissa reported extensively on the BP Oil Spill and Mississippi River Flooding. Her stories about off-shore oil workers who got stranded during Tropical Storm Nate in 2011, earned Melissa a First Place AP Award for the Best In-Depth Story. Her stories have been featured on CNN, ABC World Now and Good Morning America. Her husband is a Tulsa native and a firefighter. When she isn't telling people's stories, Melissa enjoys spending time with her husband, her new daughter London and two Maltese dogs Phoebe and Emma.
